Inconel 690 — also designated Alloy 690, UNS N06690 and Werkstoff No. 2.4642 — is a solid-solution-strengthened nickel-chromium-iron alloy containing 27–31% chromium, roughly double the chromium level of Alloy 600. That single compositional change, combined with controlled thermal treatment, gives the alloy markedly improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking in high-temperature water. Its density is approximately 8.19 g/cm³ and its melting range is approximately 1343–1377 °C. The alloy is best known as the reference tubing material for pressurized water reactor (PWR) steam generators, and it is also used in nitric acid and selected mixed-acid chemical service. Read More
