1050 aluminum coil is a commercially pure wrought aluminum product in the 1000 series, containing a minimum of 99.50% aluminum. It is non-heat-treatable and derives its strength primarily from cold working (strain hardening). Compared to 1100 alloy, 1050 offers slightly higher purity, resulting in superior electrical and thermal conductivity, better corrosion resistance, and higher reflectivity.
As a general-purpose pure aluminum grade, 1050 aluminum coil is widely used in chemical processing equipment, food industry containers, building decoration, heat exchangers, signage, lighting reflectors, and various stamping & deep-drawing applications. It is available in multiple tempers — from fully annealed (O) for maximum formability to full hard (H18) for maximum strength.
| Thickness (mm) | Width (mm) | Coil ID (mm) | Temper |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.3 – 0.5 | 1000 / 1219 / 1220 | 150 / 300 | O / H14 / H18 |
| 0.5 – 0.8 | 1000 / 1219 / 1250 | 150 / 300 / 405 | O / H14 / H16 |
| 0.8 – 1.2 | 1000 / 1219 / 1220 / 1250 | 150 / 300 / 405 | O / H14 / H16 / H18 |
| 1.2 – 2.0 | 1000 / 1219 / 1220 / 1250 / 1500 | 300 / 405 / 505 | O / H14 / H16 / H18 |
| 2.0 – 3.0 | 1000 / 1219 / 1220 / 1250 / 1500 | 300 / 405 / 505 | O / H14 / H16 / H18 |
| 3.0 – 4.0 | 1000 / 1219 / 1220 / 1250 | 300 / 405 / 505 | O / H14 / H16 |
| 4.0 – 6.0 | 1000 / 1219 / 1250 | 300 / 405 / 505 | O / H14 |
Custom sizes (thickness, width, coil ID, and temper combinations) available upon request. Standard tolerance per ASTM B209 / EN 485-2.
1050 aluminum is a non-heat-treatable alloy. Its mechanical properties are controlled by cold working (strain hardening). The table below summarizes the key mechanical properties for each temper designation.
| Temper | Description | Tensile Strength (MPa) | Yield Strength (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Hardness (HB) | Formability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| O | Annealed (fully soft) | 60 – 95 | ≥ 20 | ≥ 25 | ≤ 25 | Excellent — deep draw, spinning |
| H12 | Strain-hardened — 1/4 hard | 80 – 120 | ≥ 60 | ≥ 8 | 26 – 30 | Good — moderate forming |
| H14 | Strain-hardened — 1/2 hard | 105 – 145 | ≥ 85 | ≥ 6 | 30 – 35 | Balanced — general sheet metal |
| H16 | Strain-hardened — 3/4 hard | 120 – 160 | ≥ 100 | ≥ 3 | 33 – 37 | Limited — bending with large radius |
| H18 | Strain-hardened — full hard | ≥ 150 | ≥ 125 | ≥ 2 | ≥ 37 | Minimal — flat applications only |
Per ASTM B209 / EN 573-3 (EN AW-1050A), the chemical composition limits are as follows:
| Element | Symbol | Content (wt%) |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminum | Al | ≥ 99.50 |
| Iron | Fe | ≤ 0.40 |
| Silicon | Si | ≤ 0.25 |
| Copper | Cu | ≤ 0.05 |
| Manganese | Mn | ≤ 0.05 |
| Magnesium | Mg | ≤ 0.05 |
| Zinc | Zn | ≤ 0.05 |
| Titanium | Ti | ≤ 0.03 |
| Vanadium | V | ≤ 0.05 |
