A medium-strength heat-treatable alloy with exceptional surface finish, superior corrosion resistance, and excellent extrudability — the industry standard for architectural, furniture, and precision-machined components.
What is 6063 aluminum alloy and why it matters
6063 aluminum alloy is a medium-strength, heat-treatable alloy in the Al-Mg-Si (aluminum-magnesium-silicon) family. Often called an "architectural alloy," it is the most widely used extrusion alloy globally, prized for its smooth surface finish, superior anodizing response, and excellent extrudability.
Compared to 6061, 6063 offers lower strength but significantly better surface quality and corrosion resistance, making it the preferred choice when aesthetics and environmental durability are critical. Shanghai Bozhong Metal Group supplies 6063 bars in multiple tempers and precision dimensions to meet diverse application demands.

Values are minimum requirements per ASTM B221 / EN 755-2. T5 is the most widely used temper for architectural applications; T6 is preferred when higher strength is needed. T66 offers the best combination of strength and surface finish.
Nominal alloy composition in compliance with ASTM B221 / EN 573-3
| Element | Symbol | Composition (%) | Role in Alloy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminum | Al | 97.55 – 98.50 | Base metal; provides lightweight structure and corrosion resistance |
| Magnesium | Mg | 0.45 – 0.90 | Primary strengthening element; forms Mg2Si precipitates |
| Silicon | Si | 0.20 – 0.60 | Combines with Mg to form Mg2Si; enhances extrudability |
| Iron | Fe | ≤ 0.35 | Controls grain size; excess reduces surface quality |
| Copper | Cu | ≤ 0.10 | Minor strength contribution; kept low for corrosion resistance |
| Manganese | Mn | ≤ 0.10 | Grain refiner; improves toughness |
| Chromium | Cr | ≤ 0.10 | Grain structure control; limits recrystallization |
| Zinc | Zn | ≤ 0.10 | Trace element; kept low for architectural applications |
| Titanium | Ti | ≤ 0.10 | Grain refiner during solidification |
| Others (each) | — | ≤ 0.05 | Trace impurities controlled for consistency |
| Others (total) | — | ≤ 0.15 | Total impurity cap per ASTM specifications |
